HOW TO SELL ART PRINTS ON ETSY

Updated: Sep 19, 2021

5 TIPS FOR SELLING ART PRINTS ON ETSY

Last year I set out on a journey, unexpectedly, to see if I could sell my digital collage prints on Etsy. I chose Etsy because of the market place platform it already had. As a mom and someone who works full time, this was the best option for me.

At the start of March 2020, I was furloughed for two months. I started created art on my iPad. I started an instagram account on a whim and started posting. Connecting with other collage artists, I found myself really enjoying the community and the medium.

It wasn't until I received a printer for my birthday, that I had any idea that I would be opening a print shop. At almost 300 sales, I've learned a lot along the way.

1. HAVE FUN WITH IT

Okay, okay. I know. It's easier said than done. Look, I've opened up so many Etsy shops in my lifetime and this is the first one to actually take off. Why? Maybe because my end goal was to just have fun with it, experiment, and overall be myself.

I had fun with designing my logo and the cover. Now, I will say, the descriptions and the little writing details were a lot harder for me, which leads me to my next point..

2. TAKE YOUR TIME

Now, I know everyone wants to jump into it IMMEDIATELY. You can. List some items, but please be sure to check back in everyday to see if you can reword some descriptions differently. Add some more information to really give your customer a clearer idea of what they are buying.

Look at your tags. What are your customers shopping for? What would you type in? Maybe ask a friend what they would search on google if they were trying to look for your work.

3. ADD ITEMS REGULARLY

Creating is a lot of work, if you can't create something new, see if maybe you can leverage it in a different way. Along with my art prints, I sell stickers. I also sell some t-shirts, pillows, and blankets by connecting it to a print on demand manufacturer. Don't worry, I honestly didn't start doing this until much later. That's another learning curve all together.

4. BE CONSISTENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

This was SUCH a game changer for me. Showing up imperfectly on social media. Posting every few days, showing up on my Instagram stories. Creating connections with people. Responding to messages, and engaging with others. Find your people, they are out there and they will support you. Also, in return, I've gained a lot of wicked cool art for myself!

5. ALWAYS SEE WHAT YOU CAN IMPROVE

Since I've started selling my art prints, I've improved so so much. My packaging, my branding, etc. It's a slow build. Investing into better materials takes time. But step by step, and day by day, it's all coming together.

*ADDED BONUS TIP* PINTEREST

Now, this might be obvious, but Pinterest is great! I'm not an expert by any means. I just update it every now and then. To be honest, I probably need to do that again. But it's good to start, because I've gotten a lot of organic traffic that way. Create a board for your art, your shop, and any other little things that you can relate back to your art prints.

Maybe if I figure it out, I'll write a separate post about that.

IN CONCLUSION

Perfection is overrated. Just start. Improve little by little. Connect with people. Remember to connect with yourself and create what lights your heart up.

Hope this helps a little bit!

Much love and art,
